Mechanical tech, responsible for the building and assembling of various equipment

Tell us about your education story and how you came to work at SMD ?

I studied a Level 3 subsea & renewable course at the Newcastle college energy academy in Wallsend. I got referred to an open vacancy at SMD by the Head of the energy academy at the time who encouraged the pupils to seek apprenticeships as a way to start off your career in the industry.

What is the best part about working at SMD?

I have been able to start a career in a company that is widely respected and highly thought of throughout the industry.

Any advice for young people who may be interested in engineering/ doing an apprenticeship/?

It is the best way to kickstart your career in a thriving industry. The benefit of being able to develop your skillset and experience at the same time is an opportunity that is too great to miss.
