I always knew I wanted to go to university, but until it came to make the choice I had absolutely no idea what I was going to study. I have always had an inquisitive mind leading me to want to know how things work; combining this with an aptitude for maths and sciences it seemed to fall into place that I move towards an engineering subject.
I attended the University of Newcastle where I obtained my Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with Honours in Mechanical and Materials Engineering. From there, I have worked in several sectors starting from Forensic Engineer within the Defence industry, moving onto Projects and Sales in the Oil and Gas industry working with both subsea and topside markets.
I have been lucky enough to have been able to travel extensively with my work, managing to visit Europe, Africa (onshore and offshore), Asia and the USA. I chose SMD as it is a forward-thinking company, with possibilities for growth. The company is involved in a number of subsea markets from oil and gas, cable laying and wind technology. With the expansive markets that SMD cover every job is different and poses new and different challenges to overcome.
