WORLD-FIRST EFFICIENCIES
The SMD Quantum EV shows what subsea electrification looks like on an industrial scale. It is a fully electric Work Class ROV designed for heavy-duty tasks, including construction, IRM, salvage, survey, and scientific operations.
Its size and stability are key advantages. The SMD Quantum EV operates in 6000m depths and is particularly suited to high-current applications, where it delivers true stability in currents up to three knots.
The benefits are clear: improved efficiency, reduced operational costs, and greater performance.
DELIVERING WITH DC POWER
A clear technical advantage of the SMD Quantum EV is its DC-based power system, selected over traditional AC for numerous reasons.
Eradicating the need for a large transformer, this strategic decision yields a lighter, smaller, more agile vehicle. Voltage spikes are avoided, improving reliability, and each vehicle subsystem is self-contained. This means that if one channel encounters an issue, the system can automatically switch to another to maintain operational continuity.
FUTURE-FOCUSSED TECHNOLOGY
Advanced flight control processors sit at the heart of what makes the SMD Quantum EV unique.
Sophisticated flight behaviours ease the workload of ROV pilots. Intuitive set-point control, for example, means pilots tell the vehicle what to do rather than how to do it. Heading, altitude, and position are then automatically maintained.
The system also supports extreme pitch and roll angles, granting access to confined spaces simply out of bounds for other vehicles.
However, future-proofing is about more than technology. It is also about the people who drive innovation forward.
